PROJECT DEVELOPMENT
HELLO👋 and welcome back to another blog. This week we would be finally looking into the project development of my team's chemical device, the breathanalyser.
1. Our team Chemical Device
Our chemical device, the breathanalyser, is able to alert and surprise the user when high concentration of alcohol is detected. the main problem we focused on was drink-driving and we wanted to reduce the amount of drink driving accidents as well. The device will be able to spray water, light up as well as a loud beeping sound to alert the person. the picture below is our initial design.
the picture below is our final sketch.
2. Team Planning, allocation, and execution
MADELAINE- Chief safety officer
JOLYN-Chief financial officer
CUI HAN-Chief operating officer
KALYANI(ME)-Chief operating officer
Our finalized BOM (BILL OF MATERIALS) table.
I have also inserted the links for my teams initial and finalized Gantt chart and the task allocation for each team member.

3. Design and Build Process
In this section, my team shall provide documentation of the design and build process.
Part 1. Design and Build of 3D printed bottle(done by Madelaine)

Part 4. Integration of all parts and electronics (done by me)
3D PRINTING
For the 3d printing we 3d printed a water shooter which will be connected to the pump.
Purpose: To shoot water at user when required
Thought Process:
Make it small and compact so can fit easily in the breathanalyzer
Able to refill it easily
Pump power is not as high as desired
The process:
Using Fusion360 we designed the water shooter.
We saved the Fusion360 design as an stl file and exported it to cura.
Then we saved it as a gcode file and then saved the file to a thumbdrive and printed it.
LASER CUTTING and PUTTING IT TOGETHER
We used hot glue gun to glue 3 rectangular sides of the box, leaving one side open. We placed our different components inside with the aid of the double sided tape. We tried to run the process and it worked !!Thereafter, we taped up one rectangular side which was open. And our final product is done !!!
Our pump was our biggest problem during this process. this is due to one of the wires tearing apart from the part. hence the pump could not work. we tried to hot glue but due to the sturdiness of the hot glue for this situation, the hot glue did not help as the wire continued to not be intact with the pump. we also tried to use masking tape to secure the wire. it did help at certain times, but we had to continuously hold the wire and the pump together. we concluded that this was due to wear and tear. we do have a video of the pump working with our water tank to shoot out water.

4. Problems and solutions
Key problems:
Key problems | Solution |
The pump we were given did not have a connection that would allow us to connect it to the arduino, so we could not program it. | We operate the water system using a switch. |
We wanted to use spray bottle for our water, but could not program it so that it sprays when the alcohol is detected. | We 3D printed a hollow cylinder with a hole on the sides so the water shoots out. |
We wanted to 3D print our body, but it took a lot of time. | We laser cut our body , it was easier and more efficient. |
Limitations:
Limitations | Eliminate/ limit |
Arduino boards and maker uno were given by the school, this led to our product to not be as compact as we wanted it to be. | Self-source for smaller arduino boards adn maker uno. |
Pump provided by school was not able to connect to arduino . | We can source for pumps which has the ability to be connected to the arduino uno and it should not be too fragile. |
The beep sound will not stop unless there is certainly no alcohol in the surrounding atmosphere . |
